Sydney Evershed invents the insulation tester.

1903

“Megger” registered as a trademark

1923

AVO Meter, world’s first multi-meter developed.

1936

James Biddle was an importer of Megger insulation testers and later started manufacturing high voltage test instruments. Based in the beautiful National Park of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, the high voltage tradition continues as Megger’s major site for cable fault location equipment and transformer test equipment.

1946

First commercial cable location from James Biddle Inc.

1951

Based in Dallas, Texas, the Multi-Amp facility concentrated on relay test and circuit breaker test equipment.

1965

During the summer of this year, the Millionth AVOmeter (The Model 8 Mark 3) was manufactured in Dover. Low-voltage Power Factor tester. First low voltage insulation Power Factor test set

1968

AVO acquires Evershed and Vignoles (Megger)

1976

Progamma launches first portable relay tester.

1984

First micro-processor controlled circuit breaker analyser.

1988

First 3 phase relay tester Freja RTS. Portable DFR analyser. PAX launches portable dielectric frequency response analyser for transformers.

1991

’TBG is a privately owned industrial conglomerate based in Switzerland. Thyssen-Bornemisza Group acquires all companies within the AVO group.

1995

Megger, Biddle and Multi-Amp join together.

1999

AVO International renamed to Megger.

2007

2000 J cable fault locater. First cable fault location device with more than 2000 J

2008

PAX (Sweden), specialist transformer diagnostic instruments, joins Megger group.

2012

SebaKMT Group (Germany), world leaders in cable fault location, testing and diagnostics joins. Includes the HDW (USA) subsidiary specialist in fault location.

Radeburg (DE) HV Research laboratory opened.
